Recommended Average Reprojection Error

Hello All!

I wanted to know what range reprojection errors are good enough for a typical stereo setup. I get around 0.1 - 0.3 after calibration so I wanted to know if this is the general trend or not.

Many thanks in advance!

Aditya

Hi Aditya,

this depends on your camera resolution and lenses. For a 0.5 megapixel resolution and non-wide-angle lenses a value below 0.1 pixels indicates a very good calibration. For higher camera resolutions you must expect a larger error. Also, for wide angle lenses you will get higher errors due to the larger radial distortions. What lenses and resolution do you use?

Konstantin

We use cameras with a resolution of 1600 x 896 i.e. 1.4 MP and a wide angle lens of focal length 6mm and a FOV of 96.8 x 79.4 degrees.

Hi Aditya,

96.8 x 79.4 is extreme wide angle (are you sure your FoV is this big?). At such configurations you need to expect somewhat higher reprojection errors. So I think you are within the range.
